A legendary tale
Ahom–Mughal conflicts refer to the period between the first Mughal attack on the Ahom kingdom in 1615 and the final Battle of Itakhuli in 1682.
1st Battle - : 1615 AD
Venue -: Barnagar, Hajo , Kajali , Samdhora fort
Under the tyrant emperor Jahangir the 1st attack was made under noted mughal commanders named Abu Bakr & Raja Satrajit of Bhusna. But after some initial success the mughals Jihadis were slaughtered under the command of Pratap Singha like pigs in broad daylight.
Result : Ahom wins 1st round.
2nd Battle - : 1619 AD
Venue -: Dhanikal & Ranihat forts
Result -: Although the mughal won & regained some lost ground,But had to suffer heavy casuality. After this ,Jahangir gave up the hope of expanding Mughal Empire upto South-East Asia.Today countries like Myanmaar,Vietnaam,Thailand are not Islamic Nations, the credit goes to those valiant Ahom warriors.
The date of the 3rd battle is not properly recorded or still yet to be researched ,But the venue was Guwahati , Kamrup frontiers , Hajo.Under the Emperorship of ShahJahan the Mughals set to gain all the lost grounds but the mughals suffered so much casualities that they had to offer a cease fire & leave Kamrup proper.
The next battle took place during 1636 & 1637,where the mughals succeded to gain some grounds,But their joy was short lived as in 1638 Ahoms not won & regained all the lost grounds(Kamrup proper) But also made the mughals retreat .
From the 1642 - 1662 ,3 wars were fought between Mughals & the Ahoms .In each & every war the Mughal Jihadis had to run for their life after paying heavy war indemnity.
But in 1663,the Ahoms suffered a crushing defeat .Under the noted Ahom general Mir Jumla ,the Ahom king Jaydhwaj Singha, retreats, abandons capital but signs a treaty to regain capital with heavy war-indemnity payment.
But it didnt took much long for the tables to turn.Heavy Rain set in.The one climate for which the Jihadis were acclamatised to.Their fate swung to & fro.Their future was at the hands of either Allah(SWT) who could save them or the new Ahom king Chakradhwaj Singha who made it clear to Aurangazeb "Death is preferable to a life of subordination to foreigners"
In the battle of 1667 ,the lionhearted Ahoms broke the very spine of Mughal Empire. They slaughtered the Mughals & also forced them to retreat upto Bengal . This defeat nearly uprooted the Mughals from the soil of Assam. The words of Chakardwaj Sinha still echoes through out the hills of Assam "My ancestors were never subordinate to any other people; and I for myself cannot remain under the vassalage of any foreign power. I am a descendant of the Heavenly king and how can I pay tribute to the wretched foreigners."
Since then ,from 1967 to 1970 ,4 more wars & conflict took place. And in most of them the Mughals had to suffer setback after setback. It must also be noted that the Ahoms were crushing the mughals each time when the Mughal empire was at its zenith under the tyrant Aurangzeb.
True had been said about this land. The head shall only bow to the only God,Lord Narayan & the knee shall bend only for saluting Mother Akhom(assam) Those unsung hero who saved this motherland today are lost somewhere in the pages of history. Bollywood dimwits can make film on a mass murderer & blood thirsty maniac like Jalaluddin Akbar ,glorifing him ,but not a single film upon the sons of these soil who sacrificed & wrote our future today with their blood .As the saying goes -A country that dont remember her heroes does not stand exist for long. But India is such a country that have not only forgotten her heroes but also glorifies her invaders by making films on them & gloryfing them on their history books .
The Epic Battle of Saraighat - 1671
The Battle of Saraighat was fought in 1671 between the Mughal empire (led by the Kachwaha king, Raja Ramsingh I), and the Ahom Kingdom (led by Lachit Borphukan) on the Brahmaputra river at Saraighat, now in Guwahati. Although much weaker, the Ahom Army defeated the Mughal Army by brilliant uses of the terrain, clever diplomatic negotiations to buy time, guerrilla tactics, psychological warfare, military intelligence and by exploiting the sole weakness of the Mughal forces—its navy.
The Battle of Saraighat was the final nail on the coffins of Mughal Empire's Assam extension plan.
According to tradition, Lachit himself executed his uncle for dereliction of duty.
"My uncle is not greater than my country".
After this battle one more battle was in 1682 under of Gadhadhar Singha, Ahom King.Ahom regains Guwahati and all the western frontier posts upto Bengal and establishes firm reign over the area till advent of British in 1826.In line with the above we can understand, the Mughals or Muslims failed to crush the Ahoms even with an army & economy 10 times bigger then their opponent failing miserably in most of their campaigns & expeditions .And still the muslims beat their chests boasting of their bravery of their mythical 1000 years of rule over the Hindus .
